Default Top 100 Movie List qualms

I'm guessing most of you guys and gals know IMDB - Internet Movie Database. It has a list of the top 250 films of all time, as rated by users:

http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

What are the major problems with the list, in your eyes?

Mine would have to be the fact that 2 LOTR movies are in the top 20, beating out Strangelove, Silence of the Lambs, and other great movies. Wizard of Oz and Jaws are way too far back in the list, as are Saving Private Ryan and Full metal Jacket. Why Toy Story 2 made the list is puzzling, especially seeing as how it beat out Lebowski by several dozen spots. And for some reason, Episode 3 beat Scarface by one spot...in the 233. And the last movie on the list shouldn't belong either - not for the homosexuality but for the fact that as a movie, it was crap.

Hmm... Well, here goes:

There are way too many kids movies that are undeserving to be on this list and in undeserving spots. I have no clue how Toy Story 2 beat out the original... that's BS. I noticed a couple other sequels that rated better than the originals. I think that's just people on the bandwagon. The first movie is a hit but people don't see it, then people catch the 2nd one because they heard the first was good. Anyway, back to the kids movies: Shrek is better than Toy Story. Wallace & Gromit doesn't deserve to be on there. Chicken Run deserves its place. Incredibles was pretty good but definately not on the top 100 movies.

There are a lot of foreign films on here that I haven't seen. But as far as the ones I have seen, I would have put Lola Rennt (aka Run Lola Run) right below Memento. Das Boot deserves a higher ranking as well.

Braveheart at #92? That's shameful. Gandhi is on par with Schindler's List and deserves to be at LEAST on the top 20. How the hell is The Passion of Christ not on this list? The Deer Hunter was placed too low as well. The Big Lebowski deserves at the very least, a spot above Fargo. It's by far the best Cohen Brother's movie.

That's all I noticed at a quick run-through. I'm sure there's more I could complain about. :p

After looking through the list, I can't find anyting to complain about. Amelie made 29, so if they don't have Airplane, well I guess that's their choice.

I have no real complaints, as that is just user ratings. Had they compiled the list on their own, I would have laughed at it.

Strangelove is vastly overrated as it is Red, so I wouldn't push it any farther.

Toy Story 2 is a great movie, and this is user rated. Everyone loves that movie. That's why it's there, it may not be a great film, but it's popular, and entertaining.

It comes down to the list being a popularity contest. I've looked at it many times before, and wondered how so many people could have voted as they did, but it's their opinion. Even if it is wrong ;-)

Strangelove is way under-rated. Barely anyone knows what it is.

I consider it very close to a waste of time.

It's hilarious, but most of the humor is hard to pick up on.

I actually think it is nice to see so many sequels on the list, as far too often the critics band together to fling **** at sequels, always claiming that "the writers have run out of material" or "the much loved characters have changed"... some sequels do come out much worse than the original, but many just take a tried and tested formula to a higher level of entertainment

And I felt like throttling you when you said wallace and gromit shouldn't be on the list... but that faded real fast when you mentioned chicken run, that was a quality little film

Film that are ranked too low: Platoon, the Green Mile, The life of Brian, Terminator 2, Forrest Gump and Pirates of the Caribbean... ranked 236? wtf?

Films that need to go way down: The Princess Bride, The Wizard of Oz, Lawrence of Arabia, Casablanca and Psycho... terrible, brain grating films

I don't think that Incredibles should be anywhere near the top 100. Sure, I liked the movie, but to say its one of the top 100 movies of all time? No way!

I think Alien and Aliens also got ranked too high. Cool movies, but kind of stupid at sometimes.

I picked up on it, I just didn't find much of it that funny. I got a lot of little chuckles, and only one actual laugh (the soda machine). But, to each his own I suppose.

What it comes down to is that this is a popularity contest. This is essentially what are the most popular movies according to people. This "survey" if you will started probably no more than 10 years ago, so it's obviously not going to be perfect at all.
