Time off for good behavior - she must have been very good...

Paris Hilton released from jail after four days
June 07, 2007 - Paris Hilton left jail early today after spending four days behind bars -- only a fraction of the 23 days or more that Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials vowed she would serve.
Quote:
Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told reporters that sheriff's medical officials decided to have Hilton spend the rest of her sentence under home confinement, her movements monitored by an ankle bracelet. 'She will be confined to her home for 40 days,' Whitmore said.

He did not elaborate on why officials decided to allow Hilton to leave the jail or whether some sort of medical condition was a factor. The issue of how much time Hilton would spend in jail for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license has been the topic of much debate. A judge in May sentenced her to 45 days in jail and suggested she would serve the entire sentence.

But after jail officials reviewed her case, they decided she would receive significantly less time than 45 days. She will not serve the whole sentence, they said, because the state allows time off for good behavior. Whitmore insisted that Hilton was not receiving special treatment with the early release. He added that other inmates under similar circumstances had been allowed to finish their sentences under home confinement.

Paris Hilton Ordered to Return to Court
Jun 7, 2007- Paris Hilton's release from jail may be short lived.
Quote:
Hours after she was sent home under house arrest Thursday for an undisclosed medical condition, the judge who put her in jail for violating her reckless-driving probation ordered her into court to decide if she should go back behind bars. Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.

"My understanding is she will be brought in in a sheriff's vehicle from her home," Parachini said. The celebrity inmate was sent home from the Los Angeles County jail's Lynwood lockup shortly after 2 a.m. in a stunning reduction to her original 45-day sentence. She had reported to jail Sunday night after attending the MTV Movie Awards in a strapless designer dress.

She was ordered to finish her sentence under house arrest, meaning she could not leave her four-bedroom, three-bath home in the Hollywood Hills until next month. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo complained that he learned of her release the same way as almost everyone else - through news reports. Then, late Thursday, he filed a petition questioning whether Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court for releasing Hilton - and demanding that she be held in custody. Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer's decision to haul Hilton back to the courtroom came shortly after.

She's a young thing who cannot leave her mother...

Meltdown: Weeping Hilton Ordered Back to Jail
June 8, 2007 - Judge orders Paris Hilton back to jail to serve entire sentence of 45 days.
Quote:
Talk about a tease. Paris Hilton's tumultuous week of being in jail, then out of jail and under house arrest, has come to an end. The heiress got a taste of the comforts of her own home for a little more than 24 hours before the judge sent her right back where she came -- jail.

Hilton was spotted crying when she was driven from her house to the court, and the crying continued in the courtroom. Despite both of her parents being there for support, she fought back tears throughout the entire proceedings. In addition, she was rocking back and forth and was visibly shaking.

Once Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered her returned to jail to serve her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation in a reckless driving case, Hilton completely broke down. Screaming and crying, she shouted "Mom!" and "It's not right!" She was helped physically from the room.

Power Struggle
Yo Paris, guess what?...

... Underage drunk driving ain't right either.

Miss Paris doin' time hard...

Hilton reportedly not eating, sleeping
9 June 2007 - Sources say distraught heiress being given anti-psychotic drugs in jail
Quote:
Paris Hilton has not eaten or slept since arriving at the medical ward of a Los Angeles jail and is being given psychoactive drugs, celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported on Saturday, citing law enforcement sources. The socialite and hotel heiress was ordered back to jail on Friday after a judge overruled a sheriff’s decision to place her under house arrest for psychological problems after she had spent three days of an expected three-week term behind bars.

The 26-year-old “has been crying a lot, praying” and is “extremely withdrawn,” TMZ reported. Hilton was visited by her psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Sophy, for more than two hours on Saturday morning. She was being held in a room by herself with a glass door that is guarded at all times, the report said.

Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County sheriff, declined to comment on the report. “Anything to do with her medical stuff I can’t confirm or deny,” he said. Hilton released a statement Saturday indictating she would not appeal the judge's decision.

Psychiatric tests for Paris
Sun 10 Jun 2007 - PARIS Hilton was last night undergoing medical and psychiatric examinations in a Los Angeles jail where she is expected to serve around 18 days.
Quote:
County Sheriff Lee Baca, whose decision to release the socialite from prison last week was later revoked by a more senior judge, said he would decide the best place to house the heiress after learning the results. Meanwhile, the Hilton heiress's spokesman said he expected her lawyer to file an appeal against her reimprisonment tomorrow. Legal experts said the appeal would be based on whether the judge overstepped his authority in forcing Hilton's return to jail on Friday after Baca released her to home confinement.

Hilton is starting to attract support from an increasing number of lawyers, fans and ordinary members of the public who believe her imprisonment is wrong. The move to send her back to Los Angeles County's "Twin Towers" jail to serve the remainder of her 45-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case has led many observers to believe she is paying the price for her fame and lifestyle.

The 26-year-old had been released last Thursday after just three days inside the detention centre, but was sent back 24 hours later. Laurie Levenson, a law professor at the Loyola Law School in the Californian city, said she was under no illusions as to what was happening.

Miss Paris adjustin' to prison life...

Hilton: 'I Am Learning and Growing' in Jail
June 10, 2007 - In Her Own Words, Hilton 'Learning and Growing'; Heiress Tells Lawyers Not to Appeal Judge's Decision
Quote:
In a statement just a day after her frenzied return to jail after a brief period of home confinement, Paris Hilton said she won't appeal her imprisonment and is "shocked" by all the attention she has gotten recently. "Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," said Hilton's statement through an attorney Saturday, a day after she cried in public and hysterically called out for her mother in court.

"While I greatly appreciate the sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, I intend to serve my time at L.A. County Jail," her statement added. Hilton said she was accepting jail as a learning experience. "Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," she said in the statement, according to The Associated Press. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience."

But Harvey Levin of the entertainment Web site TMZ said Hilton is still miserable. "She is a mess," he said. "She is despondent. We have a couple of law enforcement sources who have described her as a train wreck. She is distraught. She is not eating. She is not sleeping. She is, as one person put it, teetering on the brink." Sheriff's officials said Hilton now has at least 15 days left to serve and her health is being evaluated in a medical ward. She may never be transferred to the general jail population.

June 9, 2007: Fame Complicates Hilton Case -- but Did it Help or Hurt the Hotel Heiress?
Quote:
It might be hard to find anyone who was awake and breathing near a television set this past week who didn't know at least something about Paris Hilton's on-again, off-again, on-again incarceration, or have an opinion about what happened.

From the fans and protestors who stood outside the courtroom, to the candidates on the presidential campaign trail, people were debating the case and what it means. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, N.C., told reporters it pointed out the difference between class in America.

"I still believe, without regard to Paris Hilton, that we have two Americas," Edwards said. Late night talk show host Jay Leno joked Hilton left jail with the one license plate she managed to finish, reading "DBL STNDRD."

Why was Paris Hilton released?
June 11, 2007 - AS Paris Hilton sits in prison, it's been revealed her grandfather donated money to the election campaign of the sheriff who released the 26-year-old from jail.
Quote:
The contribution from William Barron Hilton, 78, co-chairman of the Hilton Hotel chain, to Sheriff Lee Baca's re-election campaign is revealed in financial records. A friend of the Hilton family said the temporary release of the heiress last week may have been a "quid pro quo". "A member of her family has been a contributor to Baca's campaign and this may have been payback time," the friend said.

"Her entourage initially were confident she would be out of jail in a few days." Mr Baca, who has faced heavy criticism for attempting to overrule the judge in the case, has in the past been accused of favouritism towards the Hollywood elite.

He was the officer who failed to report actor Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic tirade after the star was arrested for drink-driving. Gibson had filmed television advertisements for one of Sheriff Baca's pet causes - an education fund for policemen's children.

Paris lines up Barbara Walters for first post-prison interview
Wednesday 6th June, 2007 : Paris Hilton has just started her prison term, but the socialite has already chalked out which high-flying journalist will get her exclusive first post-prison interview.
Quote:
Rumour has it that the heiress has already agreed to give her first post-prison exclusive interview to Barbara Walters and "20/20." However, ABC rep Jeffrey Schneider said that they had no commitment and confirmation for a post-prison tell-all.

"We have no commitment for an interview," the New York Post quoted Schneider, as saying. Meanwhile Hilton's brother Barron, was mugged at knifepoint near Penn Station on June 4.

Barron, along with three male friends and two girls showed up at Stereo on West 29th Street, and was later confronted by two muggers, who were trying to get money out of them.

Miss Paris turnin' things around...

Hilton's double maladies - ADD and claustrophobia
Tuesday 12th June, 2007 : Hotel heiress, Paris Hilton, is suffering from a condition called extreme Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and claustrophobia- fear of enclosed places, if reports have to be believed.
Quote:
ADD is a development disorder that is characterised by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity with symptoms such as hyperactivity, forgetfulness, poor impulse control, and distractibility. It seems that it is due to these medical conditions that Sheriff Lee Baca had ordered for her release from Lynwood prison and placed her under house arrest.

According to unnamed sources, the Simple Life star was not receiving any treatment in the prison and was even having bouts of panic attacks. The 26-year-old was feeling incapacitated, but could not call for help, reports TMZ.

Currently Hilton, who is in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility medical ward where jail inmates get treated for physical and mental ailments, is said to be depressed and has begun to lose weight. The socialite has also been penning down her thought on a piece of paper.

'Spiritual' Paris now swears to help sick children
Tuesday 12th June, 2007 : Hotel heiress turned jailbird Paris Hilton has turned more 'spiritual' since going to jail, and has now sworn to help sick children.
Quote:
In an interview to US telly host Barbara Walters, Hilton said that 'she'd get toy companies to build a Paris Hilton playhouse where sick children might come'. The 26-year-old added that God has given her a second chance to change things in her life, for the prison term is just the Almighty's way of 'releasing' her. Hilton, who is in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, medical ward, where jail inmates get treated for physical and mental ailments, is also consulting a 'spiritual advisor'.

"I've become more spiritual. God's given me a second chance. My soul did not like the way I was being seen and that's why I was sent to jail. God has released me." the Sun quoted her, as saying. The socialite, who is behind bars for violating terms of probation, also said that she has come to realise that the dumb act is no longer 'cute'. "I used to act dumb. That act's no longer cute," Hilton said. The 'Simple Life' star added that she is no longer the person she was, and that she has realised she can make a difference.

Hilton also said that she wants to do 'different things' when she is out of the slammer, for she also wants to help breast cancer and multiple sclerosis sufferers. "I'm not the same person I was. I know now that I can make a difference, I want to do different things when I'm out of here," she said. She said that she is no longer the superficial girl, as she hasn't bothered to look at herself in the mirror. "My face is very dry. There's no cream here. It doesn't matter. I'm not that superficial girl. I haven't even looked in the mirror," she said.

Her Simple Life sidekick gets it too...

TV star Richie handed jail term
Friday, 27 July 2007, US reality TV star Nicole Richie is given four days in jail after pleading guilty to driving on drink and drugs.
Quote:
The 25-year-old was also handed three years' probation and fined $2,048 (£1,010) at a court in California. She was arrested in December after driving the wrong way down a Los Angeles motorway. Ms Richie's sentence comes weeks after her Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton was released after 23 days in prison.

Drug programme

At the time of Ms Richie's arrest, police said she told them that she had taken a painkiller and smoked marijuana. At a court appearance in February, she denied the charges. The TV star, who is the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, entered the courthouse in Glendale with boyfriend Joel Madden, the lead singer of rock band Good Charlotte.

Superior Court Commissioner Steven K Lubell warned Ms Richie she would go to jail for a year if she violated the terms of her three years' probation, and called the facts of the case "pretty scary". "Someone could have gotten killed or injured. The court does not want anything to happen to you," he told Ms Richie. She has also been ordered to enrol in a drug and alcohol programme and must prove she has completed it by February.

"You are not to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol or drugs in your system," said Mr Lubell. "You are not to drive without a driver's licence," he added. He told the court he would let the state Department of Motor Vehicles determine whether to suspend her driving licence or not.

4 days probably equals 1 day for her.

On the plus side, Paris Hilton looked like a changed person on that Larry King interview awhile back.

Guess she heard what grandpappy was gonna do...

Hilton loses inheritance
July 30, 2007: PARTY princess Paris Hilton is $60 million out of pocket after her billionaire grandfather - appalled by her jail term for drink-driving offences - reportedly axed her inheritance.
Quote:
Family patriarch Barron Hilton was already embarrassed by his granddaughter's wild behaviour - notably when her home sex video was leaked on the internet. But the 79-year-old considered her 23-day sentence last month the last straw, a Hilton biographer says.

"He was, and is, extremely embarrassed by how the Hilton name has been sullied by Paris," says Jerry Oppenheimer, who wrote a biography of the clan called House Of Hilton. "He now doesn't want to leave unearned wealth to his family."

Hilton senior, the only member of the family left with a sizeable stake in the huge hotel chain, has let it be known that he intends to donate to charity the $2.4bn he will gain from this month's sale of the company to private equity firm Blackstone. The money will go to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the charity set up in the name of the founder of the family business.

Guess Miss Paris gonna have to make her money the old-fashioned way...

Hilton gives fortune to charity (not Paris)
December 26 2007: The 80-year-old billionaire intends to leave his money to a charitable group founded by his father - sorry, Paris and Nicky.
Quote:
The Hilton family patriarch, Barron Hilton, will pass on the $1.2 billion windfall from the sale of Hilton Hotels Corporation - not to his famous progeny, but to his family's philanthropic foundation, Fortune has learned.

Barron Hilton's donation will effectively double the size of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, named after Barron's father, the man who built Hilton Hotels from scratch and great-grandfather of celebutantes Paris and Nicky Hilton. In a statement e-mailed to Fortune, Barron Hilton wrote: "My personal net worth today, including created trusts, is approximately $2.3 billion, and what ever value it is upon my passing, it is my intent to contribute 97% of my estate to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, following in my father's footsteps."

Hilton, who is 80 years old, has had an infusion of cash from two recent private equity deals. In July, Blackstone (BX) announced it was purchasing Hilton hotels for $26 billion, or $47.50 a share. Barron held roughly 5% of the shares. He also owns a stake in Harrah's Entertainment (HET, Fortune 500), which is in the process of being bought by Apollo and Texas Pacific Group for $15 billion. That deal will reportedly net him $300 million when the sale is complete.
