It's so ridiculous how the media takes a joke (which I thought was funny), misinterprets it, and over-reacts to it while completely ignoring his explanation. |

Politicians should be able to say what they want without people jumping all over them. A Canadian MP called President Bush a moron a while ago and everyone was mad at her for it. I don't see why. It's her opinion and she can voice it no matter what position or responsibilities she holds.
It's the same for Kerry. Even if he did 'slam the troops,' it shouldn't be a problem. Let the guy say what he wants. If you said something and people harrassed you for it, you'd tell them to piss of because you have the constitutional right to say what you will without being bothered about it. |

That's not exactly it. Anything politicians say is scrutinized, because they are the ones who run our country. So a comment bashing our troops will be picked up by the media, as it should be. People need to know what their leaders are saying. In this case, however, the media has distorted his words and intent beyond recognition.

Yes, it should be picked up by the media, but it should be left up to people to scrutinize it, not the media. They should simply report what he said (in context of course) and be done with it.

First Amendment: Freedom of the Press
They can say what they want and interpret it the way they want as long as they don't commit libel to one's character. The press just brings out how stupid Kerry really is.

Come on, Pan. No kind of respectable media source should twist words until people see Kerry like you do for no reason. Sure, Kerry isn't the best and he isn't the brightest, but he is still a dozen times better than Bush.

Yeah, this is just a cheap attempt by the "opposition" to poke fun at. They're jumping for joy at the attempt to take the heat off the boy-loving Rep. from Florida.
Take a look at what Stephen Colbert had to say about the whole Kerry thing, I got a good laugh: http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewid...l?itemId=77714 "Is this how stupid people get shot multiple times?!"
