Default Open Source Cola?

While browsing the wonderful world that is Wikipedia, I fell upon the Open Source article... which then led me to Open Cola! I never heard of this before, but it's pretty cool... I don't know if I'd be so eager to try it out myself though...

And then there's Open Source Beer called Vores Øl:

Dell to Sell Linux PCs
26 Feb. 2007 - Customers convince Dell to plan a new line of Linux-loaded desktop and notebook computers. After collecting some 1800 new product and service ideas from IT users and customers using an online "suggestion box," Dell Inc.

Quote:
The Dell IdeaStorm Web site, where customers and other IT enthusiasts can offer recommendations about future Dell products and configurations that they'd want to buy, was started on Feb. 16 by CEO Michael Dell, who is looking for ways to re-energize the company's sales and financial performance after several disappointing quarters.

One post that got a lot of interest was the idea that Dell bring back a reasonably priced laptop computer that runs Linux. Just a week after debuting the IdeaStorm site, the company said Friday night that the Linux-loaded desktops and laptops will be the first user-generated suggestions that it will follow.

Cheap PC's pavin' the way for Linux...

Time may be right for Linux PCs to emerge
Tues., April. 1, 2008 - Inexpensive computers are good match for open-source operating system
Quote:
The free Linux operating system handles big tasks like running supercomputers and ATMs. Now Linux has a chance to finally crack Microsoft's hold on computing's most visible domain —mainstream PCs — because of the rise of innovative, inexpensive machines. Of course, prognosticators perennially say Linux is on the verge. It gets high marks for security and stability and is widely used behind the scenes in corporate servers, making it a natural candidate to steal desktop thunder from Microsoft's dominant Windows.

And yet Linux PCs still represent less than 2 percent of the market. This time, though, there's actually evidence of momentum. While the best features in the latest Windows release, Vista, require top-notch configurations that can quickly ramp up a PC's price, one of the hottest segments of the industry involves inexpensive computers.

Laptops under $400 are real possibilities now, and some of the most buzz-worthy use Linux, such as Asustek Computer Inc.'s EeePC and the One Laptop Per Child Foundation's $200 "XO" computer for schoolchildren. Linux also is available on slim little "netbooks" being pushed by Intel Corp.

Good fit for inexpensive PCs

Dell Cutting More Than 8,800 Jobs
Apr 3, 2008 - Michael Dell: 'Every Area of the Company is Being Pursued' for Cost Cuts
Quote:
Dell Inc plans to cut more jobs than the 8,800 it earlier targeted and has already eliminated 5,500 positions, Chief Executive Michael Dell said on Thursday.

The CEO said the company will end the current year with lower operating expenses than in the previous year. Dell, speaking to analysts at company headquarters in Round Rock, Texas, said job cuts are continuing in the current quarter and will exceed the earlier target first announced in May 2007.

"We are not satisfied with the current state of affairs and are on a mission to fix it," said Dell, 43. "Every area of the company is being pursued" for cost cuts. Dell on Monday said it planned to reduce annual expenses by $3 billion annually by 2011. On Monday, Dell said the company had eliminated 3,200 jobs.
