Talking Hot, nekid teen-aged sex...

... almost burns the house down...

Teens' debut sex interrupted by fire
August 18, 2007 - A TEENAGE couple having sex for the first time were interrupted when candles set fire to the girl's attic bedroom and forced them to flee naked from her parents' house, German daily Bild reported today.
Quote:
The girl had wanted to create a romantic atmosphere for the occasion. But when the room suddenly became engulfed with flames, they had to make a hasty escape.

The couple, both 18, were pictured naked in the paper among the burned wreckage of the attic.

A charred teddy had survived but the fire wrecked the entire top floor of the house causing around $168,000 worth of damage.

CDC Shocker: 1 in 4 Teen Girls Has STD

Nearly 1 in 4 Teen Girls Has STD, CDC Says
March 11, 2008 - Among Infections, Cancer-Causing HPV Is Most Common
Quote:
At least one in four teenage girls nationwide has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group. A virus that causes cervical cancer is by far the most common sexually transmitted infection in teen girls aged 14 to 19, while the highest overall prevalence is among black girls - nearly half the blacks studied had at least one STD. That rate compared with 20 percent among both whites and Mexican-American teens, the study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.

About half of the girls acknowledged ever having sex; among them, the rate was 40 percent. While some teens define sex as only intercourse, other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some infections. For many, the numbers likely seem "overwhelming because you're talking about nearly half of the sexually experienced teens at any one time having evidence of an STD," said Dr. Margaret Blythe, an adolescent medicine specialist at Indiana University School of Medicine and head of the American Academy of Pediatrics' committee on adolescence.

But the study highlights what many doctors who treat teens see every day, Blythe said. Dr. John Douglas, director of the CDC's division of STD prevention, said the results are the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls. He said the data, from 2003-04, likely reflect current rates of infection.

"High STD rates among young women, particularly African-American young women, are clear signs that we must continue developing ways to reach those most at risk," Douglas said. The CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton said given that STDs can cause infertility and cervical cancer in women, "screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities."

Oral Sex And Pot Linked To Cancer
March 12, 2008 - Study Links Certain Head And Neck Cancers To Sexual Activity, Marijuana And HPV
Quote:
(WebMD) Certain head and neck cancers may be tied to sexual activity, marijuana use, and human papillomavirus (HPV ) type 16. That news comes from Johns Hopkins University's Maura Gillison, MD, PhD, and colleagues, who studied 240 people with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (head and neck cancers). Some of their cancers tested positive for HPV 16; others were negative for HPV 16. The patients answered questions about their lifestyle. For comparison, 322 cancer-free people answered the same lifestyle questions.

Here's what the researchers learned:

# Head and neck cancers that were positive for HPV 16 were associated with having more oral sex partners and smoking more marijuana.

# Head and neck cancers that were negative for HPV 16 weren't linked to sex or marijuana. Instead, they were tied to smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, and having poor oral hygiene.

Because the study was observational, it's not clear if those risk factors caused cancer. Based on the findings, Gillison's team argues that HPV 16-negative and HPV 16-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinomas should be considered two different types of cancer. The study appears in Tuesday's advance online edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

‘Eww’ factor aside, anal HPV infection is a risk...

Study warns about anal HPV infection risk
Fri., April. 11, 2008 • It's as common as infections that cause cervical cancer, study says
Quote:
Odds are about 50-50 that a sexually active woman will contract the virus that causes cervical cancer at some point in her life, but researchers in Hawaii have discovered that the risk of infection may be just as high in another disturbing site. Anal infections of human papillomavirus, known as HPV, appear to be as common as cervical infections, according to an article published in the April issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Half of the women in the multi-year study acquired new anal HPV infections during the trial period. Counting women infected at the start of the study, roughly 70 percent of women tested positive for anal HPV during clinic visits. That's similar to known risks for cervical HPV infection, said Brenda Y. Hernandez, a lead author of the study and an assistant professor at the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii in Honolulu.

"What we're seeing here is likely to be comparable to what is seen among primarily young, sexually active women on the U.S. mainland," Hernandez said. The suggestion that the risk of anal HPV infection is as common the risk of cervical infection is a new one, said Dr. Debbie Saslow, director of breast and gynecologic cancer for the American Cancer Society. "It is a little surprising, yes," she said.

HPV vaccine under scrutiny...

HPV Vaccine Linked To Teen's Paralysis?
July 7, 2008 - Her Father Thinks Gardasil Might Be; Drug's Maker Denies It
Quote:
Jenny was a healthy 13-year-old living in Northern California -- until 15 months ago when, her parents say, she received the third and final shot of the vaccine designed to protect against human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV causes a large percentage of cases of cervical cancer.

Soon after getting that third injection, her parents say, Jenny began experiencing the first signs of a degenerative muscle disease. They say she's their daughter is now almost completely paralyzed. Did Gardasil cause Jenny's condition?

Her family told CBS News it believes "there may be a link. But, there is no medical consensus on whether this hypothesis is stronger than other possible explanations." Merck, Gardasil's maker, disputes that, saying in a statement, "Based on the facts that we've received, the information does not suggest that this event was causally associated with vaccination."

Jenny's father hopes a blog he started will prompt other teens with similar post-vaccination problems to come forward. U.S. News & World report says there have been other possible adverse effects associated with Gardisil, though none has been confirmed. The New York Post also says Gardasil may be causing some medical problems.

Serious Questions About HPV Vaccine
WASHINGTON, July 7, 2008 - Merck’s Gardasil Now Fighting Numerous Reports Of Serious Side Effects
Quote:
The hope is that Gardasil will prove to be a lifesaver, preventing deadly cervical cancer. But today Merck's HPV vaccine is dealing with a growing number of reports of serious side effects, CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports. Jamie Venice passed out and had a seizure after her Gardasil shot. “After the seizure I didn’t want to go to bed; I thought I wasn’t going to be able to wake up,” she said.

She was lucky compared to Amanda Ratner. She came down with an illness so excruciating, she had to take morphine. Her parents, both doctors, blame Gardasil. “She’s gone from a position of being a competitive varsity lacrosse player in high school to someone who’s chronically ill,” her father, Dr. Scott Ratner, said.

Gardasil was approved in 2006 for girls as young as age 9. The conservative-funded public interest group Judicial Watch recently obtain more than eight 8,000 reports of adverse events reports under Freedom of Information law. They reveal everything from massive wart outbreaks to seizures and paralysis. Of 18 deaths, nearly a quarter cited "blood clots."

Jessica Vega got the shot at school when she was 13. Soon after, she was paralyzed. It took a year of braces and treatment to get her on her feet. Brittney Bell was 12. She and collapsed with brain inflammation and paralysis. Fourteen-year-old Jenny developed life-threatening paralysis that's resistant to treatment.

Study Finds More Allergic Reactions After HPV Jab...

HPV Shot = Severe Allergy Reactions?
September 1, 2008 - Women getting the Gardasil shot may up their risk of severe allergic reactions.
Quote:
Young women in Australia who got a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer were five to 20 times more likely to have a rare but severe allergic reaction than girls who got other vaccines in comparable school-based vaccination programs, researchers said on Monday. They said the severe allergic reactions to the human papillomavirus or HPV vaccine were unusual and manageable and that the vaccine remained safe. The team of Australian researchers led by Dr. Julia Brotherton of The Children's Hospital at Westmead studied 114,000 young women vaccinated with Merck & Co's Gardasil vaccine as part of a 2007 vaccination program in New South Wales.

Of these, 12 had suspected cases of anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can cause difficulty breathing, nausea and rashes, they reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. Eight out of the 12 young women had confirmed anaphylactic reactions after getting the vaccine, for an estimated rate of reaction of 2.6 per 100,000 doses administered. That compared with a rate of 0.1 per 100,000 doses in a 2003 school-based meningitis vaccination program.

Brotherton and colleagues suspect the higher rates of allergic reaction could be due to better surveillance programs to watch for such reactions, the higher tendency for young women to have such reactions compared with men and an apparent overall rise in the incidence of anaphylaxis in Australia. Nevertheless, they said that the rates remain rare and should not discourage use of the vaccine, which targets four strains of the human papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted virus that causes genital warts and most cases of cervical cancer. "It's just a reminder that there are rare adverse effects," said Dr. Neal Halsey of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, who wrote a commentary on the study.

Guys can get it too...

HPV infection rates similar in men and women
Fri Oct 10, 2008 - Although men are at high risk of acquiring human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, most last no more than a year, about the same time this sexually transmitted disease persists in women, researchers report in The Journal of Infectious Diseases.
Quote:
HPV has long been known as a cause of genital warts, but in recent years most reports have focused on its association with cervical cancer. In 2006, an HPV vaccine (Gardasil) designed to prevent cervical cancer was approved for use and a report released yesterday indicates that roughly one quarter of adolescent girls in the U.S. were vaccinated in 2007.

Because male-to-female transmission of HPV influences the risk of cancer in women, Dr. Anna R. Giuliano of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida, and colleagues and sought out more information on the matter. The team conducted a forward-looking study of 290 men from southern Arizona, ages 18-44 years, who were recruited by a variety of means including college posters, encounters at health clinics, and radio and newspaper advertisements.

The participants were examined at the start of the study and every 6 months thereafter. On average, the subjects were followed for 15.5 months. Upon entering the study, 30 percent of men were infected with HPV. The 12-month rate of new infection was 29.2 percent. Over the entire study period, roughly half of men were infected with HPV and nearly a third of the HPV types found are known to cause cancer. About 75 percent of the infections cleared within a year of detection.

How they gonna track down all the female illegals to give it to `em?...

US: Female immigrants must get cancer vaccine
Oct. 22, 2008, • Safety, costs for 11- to 26-year-olds are questioned, but CDC supports rule
Quote:
A cervical cancer vaccine that has been recommended only for U.S. residents has become a requirement for all new female immigrants ages 11 to 26, sparking an outcry over the order's safety and cost. "It's outrageous," said Sara Sadhwani, project director for the Asian Pacific American Legal Center in Los Angeles. "It seems absolutely premature to mandate this for immigrant women." The new requirement went into effect Aug. 1 and will affect more than 130,000 immigrants a year.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2006 approved the vaccine Gardasil for females ages 9 to 26 to block strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV, a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer. About 4,000 women in the U.S. die of the disease each year.

The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the vaccine for 11- and 12-year-old girls, with catch-up shots up to age 26. The vaccine works best if given early, before a young woman is sexually active and might have contracted the virus.

Unknown to many immigrant and health advocates, a 1996 immigration law directs the Citizenship and Immigration Services to require that new immigrants receive any inoculation recommended for U.S. residents by the CDC's immunization committee.

CDC spokesman Curtis Allen added that his agency's immunization committee, a panel of physicians that advises the CDC, did not consider the immigration implications of its recommendation. "They made the recommendation based on the effectiveness and importance of the vaccine," he said. "That's their charge, and not immigration." The CDC, Allen said, stands by its recommendation.

Granny says lissen to de Dalai, he know what he talkin' `bout...

Sex invariably spells trouble, says Dalai Lama
Fri Nov 28, `08 - The Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual and temporal leader, on Friday said sex spelt fleeting satisfaction and trouble later, while chastity offered a better life and "more freedom."
Quote:
"Sexual pressure, sexual desire, actually I think is short period satisfaction and often, that leads to more complication," the Dalai Lama told reporters in a Lagos hotel, speaking in English without a translator. He said conjugal life caused "too much ups and downs. "Naturally as a human being ... some kind of desire for sex comes, but then you use human intelligence to make comprehension that those couples always full of trouble. And in some cases there is suicide, murder cases," the Dalai Lama said.

He said the "consolation" in celibacy is that although "we miss something, but at the same time, compare whole life, it's better, more independence, more freedom." Considered a Buddhist Master exempt from the religion's wheel of death and reincarnation, the Dalai Lama waxed eloquent on the Buddhist credo of non-attachment. "Too much attachment towards your children, towards your partner," was "one of the obstacle or hindrance of peace of mind," he said.

Revered by his followers as a god-king, the Dalai Lama arrived in Lagos on Wednesday on a three-day visit following an invitation from a foundation to attend a conference. He has made no political speeches in the west African country. He leaves Friday night for the Czech Republic and then on to Brussels to address the European Parliament before heading to Poland, where he is due to meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The 73-year-old Nobel Peace laureate has been a mainstay on the diplomatic stage ever since he fled his native land for neighbouring India in 1959.
